newbie cd drive mounting probs (yellow dog 5.0 PS3)

hey all hope you can help i just installed yellow dog 5.0 on my PS3 install went fine all working as it should.
cd drive worked fine with audio but when i put a dvdr that i had burnt on my windows xp laptop and it said that it couldnt mount a the udf volume after alot of googleing from what i could make out linux cant read udf without sum modding of different things.
so i decided to have a play changing sum things in the Fstab file typing in command in the console that to be hones i had no idea what they were doing. by the time i had finished pissin around with it the drive wont even play audio cds i go into my file manager and it can see the audio cd i double click it to mount it and i get a error message saying "cdda:///dev/scd0" is not a valid location. please check spelling and try again. if i put the dvdr i was originally trying to use it said something about not having the right privileges to mount thus udf drive same message on the root user aswell as my own acount. well at about 4.00 this morning i decided i had screwed it up enough so reinstalled linux so i could at least play audio cds again, install went fine again no probs boot up linux try to mount and audio cd again and the same message apears ("cdda:///dev/scd0" is not a valid location. please check spelling and try again) and if i try to play the udf cd i now just says unable to mount the volume "UDF Volume". installing linux yesterday was my first contact with linux so i am a real newbie so any help is guna have to be real dumbed down.

so any1 no what i have done and how i can sort it out ??

if i can eventually sort this out does any1 no how i can get my windows burnt dvdr's to work on my ps3.
(the dvdr isnt a movie its just a data disk)

uname -r says 2.6.16-20070425.ydl.3ps3

if you guys need any info i will be checking back here very regualy so i should be able to get any info you need pretty quick

thanks in advanced for any help you guys can give

Pete

Update: i have just tried sound juicer and it reads my cd perfect but when i go into the file manager (naulitus or sumfin) no change still same message when i double click the audio cd icon on the left.
