Having trouble installing a piece of hardware? Want to know if that peripheral is compatible with Linux?

Question NewBe - Need Printer Recomendations

I am new to Linux. Using Suse v9.3. Can't print to my Lexmark P6250 all-in-one. Shopping for a new deskjet type printer that will work with Linux. The drivers listed on linuxprinting.or seem to be for printers that are no longer available at the stores.

Can someone please make a sugestion as to which printer I sould look at? I am interested in the ability to print nice photo's. I am into digital photography. This printer will also be used to print documents and other general stuff.

Why are the printer mfg's so non-Linux? Whouldn't it make sence to market their printers as being compatable with Linux?

ThanX for your recomendations
Odean

hlc right here has plenty of info.. where you will quickly see that hp and epson are quit linux friendly.

the reason tho in general that manufacturers are hatefull towards linux is because--- of money (duh).

they fear the wrath (foolishly) of m$ more than how linux will someday soon be their bread and butter (or they will starve).

this kinda thinking has been burnt into whole generation of users as well as... (hi, i'm halvy, i'm a recovered m$ user

Another very valuable resource for finding printers that
work well with Linux is

http://www.linuxprinting.org/printer_list.cgi

Not recommendations, but you can quite easily check
how well a printer that you'd fancy is supported.

Cheers,
Tink
