Hi,

Have installed Debian Woody. The motherboard had an on board sound card so I tried to install that and can get it working in CLI but not in the Gnome GUI which is where I need it. So I popped a spare Sound Blaster Live card I had and I turned off the motherboard sound card in the bios. I then went and reconfigured my kernel to include the sound blaster card and exclude the onboard sound, recompiled and added the new kernel to lilo. All went well, except on the reboot, the system still seems to be trying to install the motherboard sound card and not the sound blaster live. I have tried this twice and still the same result.

Can anyone help????

You probably have to remove references to the old card, and insert those for the new, in /etc/modules.conf

I can't tell you how to do it exactly without seeing what's already there, and probably wouldn't be able to even then.

Read man modules.conf, and any documentation you can find on both of your sound systems to understand what's going on.
