if there is a "XFree86.0.log" file in your /var/log directory. Paste it here.

I have the same problem. I have installed it exactly like a tutorial in LQ said, but when I try to start the X server
it doesn't start. The error is : Fatal server error: No screens found.

I'm also having similar problems , although i'm running a radeon 320m igp , my log file is at
http://satyr.websoc.net/XFree86.0.log ... since i thought that 32kb o text might not be accepted too easily on this forum and i don't know which specific parts you are looking for

(hopefully the link will work outside college , if not i can mail it or post specific parts - there were a lot of references to fonts in the quick browse i did)

Satyr521, check your font directory. If its empty, re-install the fonts.

sn_piranha, as root run depmod -A and ldconfig. Are you sure that you change the driver name because I do not think vgahw is right.

We already know that you have an ATI card, so why you post the hardware list. You should just post /etc/X11/xorg.conf.

I suggest using mc and browse through the RPM file from ATI site. There are some useful files that may help you get X Window Server working.

I have the same problem but I don't think its the fonts even with all the font related items or maybe it is but the drivers cause it as soon as you replace the drivers everything seems to work (with mesa 3d).

I don't know if this applies to SuSE users (I use Mandrake 10.1), but after I installed the ATI drivers, I had to run fglrxconfig and xorgconfig to get my X working again.

Micro420,

After you rax xorgconfig did it use the new ATI drivers, or did it go back to the old defaults?
