Network printing issue with Oki MC362dn

I'm running Linux Mint 16 Cinnamon. I've recently purchased an Oki MC362dn network printer. Whenever I try to set it up, the printer outputs the actual postscript instructions instead of the actual output I expect to get. I've tried using the PPD from Oki's web site, from their Windows driver, as well as both a generic colour postscript PPD and the pxlcolor generic PCL6 driver (since the printer supports both Postscript and PCL6), but have gotten the same results with all of them -- just text output that appears to be the instructions to the printer.

I'm pretty certain I've missed some really basic step along the way, but I have no idea what. Any ideas that may help me along will be greatly appreciated. Any diagnostics that may prove helpful, please ask and I will provide -- I'm not sure what might be of interest on my own.

Thanks!

How did you install the printer and the PPD? Did you go directly through the CUPS web interface or through they System Settings in Mint? In other words, I'm asking how you are sure the PPD is being used to drive the printer?

Also, how are you discovering the printer in Mint? are you entering its address manually or using auto-discovery of some sort? Not that it should matter, but I don't trust the auto discovery technologies as much as knowing IP addresses and entering them in.

Also, what protocol are you using to talk to the printer? LPD:// or something else?

I went through the CUPS interface to install it. (The native system interface seems to hang when I try to use it to add the printer, although it recognizes it afterward.) I provided the PPD directly via CUPS.

I used the auto-discovered printer. It did find the printer -- it just dumps the postscript onto paper instead of printing the output I want.

The identified connection is:
dnssd://OKI-MC362-96364F._printer._tcp.local/

I'm open to trying other protocols.

Thanks for your help!

try using lpd://the.ip.address.here

using the PPD as the driver

Actually, I just got it working!

It turned out it was a setting on the printer itself. It had a network postscript setting that allowed either "RAW" or "ASCII" as the values. It was on RAW, I switched it to ASCII, and suddenly it prints beautifully.

Thanks for your effort -- this is now solved.

Very cool! Happy to hear it.
