Question network printer (sort of)

Hi,

I'm in an office network and the only printer I have access to is located on the network. I have the machine's IP address, but the problem is that it's not your standard printer. It's actually a copy machine that we use to print as well.

The copier is a Canon Color ImageRunner C2058. I know the local IT guy loads some windows specific drivers to install the printer on any windows machines in the dept.

I've tried installing Canon's BrightQ software, but I'm hoping I can connect without it since that didn't work so well last time. Does anyone have an idea how I can connect to this device for all my printing fun?

I'm running Mandrake 10.1 Official if it helps. Here's the Canon software I unsuccessfully installed:
canon.codehost.com/canon_devices.php

Thanks!

Jay

I'm a little confused as to the purpose of the BrightQ software... Can anyone else figure out if it's an actual driver with a GUI, or if it's only the GUI to go alongside the driver? The website is rather ambiguous.

Just a thought...

I'm also trying to find out how to connect to a network printer via Direct IP in Linux.

Is there any reason you would think you could not connect to this copier like a regular printer...have you tried SuSE 9.2?

SuSE 9.2 Pro includes a packages that set it up for you upon install.
