I own a Creative Zen brand "Sleek" Mp3 player/photo displayer.
I use Mint 14 xfce and would like to connect my MP3 player and add/remove songs but when its connected the OS does not see the device. The sleek uses Microsoft MTP protocal so I'm wondering if I can even use this mp3 player at all in Linux? It sucks becaue I have nearly 5000 songs on the playert hat I'm unable to do anything with....
Is there a program that can work with this type of player in Mint? I've tried rythembox, banshee, clementine and Amorok with only rythembox and amorok being able to see the device but still unable to alter the songs....frustrating.
Also, I'd like to purchase another mp3 player and was wondering what brand is most compatible with most Linux OS's? I'd like a mp3 player that is recognized in the file manager when plugged in....That would be the most ideal for my needs.
I would expect there is a package in Mint that supplies libmtp. I have two mp3 players. Both mount like a usb stick. I just plug them in, they mount to the file system, and can drag and drop files to and from the devices. My old one is a Zen from Creative Labs, and the newer one is a Sony ( 8 gig ).
You should be able to get a MTP protocol one going on linux.

Most of them will work with linux. My personal preference is for Cowon, Sansa or iRiver players. They are well supported, normally work 'out of the box' with no stuffing around, and most of Cowon/Sansa/iRiver players will play open source codecs (e.g. flac, ogg vorbis).
IMO its better to get hardware from linux friendly manufacturers, or at least OS agnostic manufacturers. I wouldnt touch the big manufacturers players if I have the option to get a Cowon/Sansa/iRiver.
