Need to Get Pictures off Thumb Drive, Computer Doesn't See it

OK, I have a newer Kingston USB 3.0 Thumb Drive. My Linux system doesn't see it. I put it in my Windows computer, it doesn't see it. I put it in my Windows Laptop, doesn't see it.

Went out of town, to a friends house, used his Windows to fix it. Restored it back to original file type (or whatever that setting was). It kept the data that was on it, so I thought it was fixed. His Mac and Windows sees it.

Came home and my Linux or Windows doesn't see it. Gparted doesn't see it, Linux live CD doesn't see it. All my other USB's work.

How can I get this data off it? Any way to get this working again on my machines?

Thank you,
Chris.

happydog500,

It sounds like a mount problem as The EzekielProject has said.

Please post the output of:

Code:
 lsusb

 lspci

 sudo fdisk -l
I had a similar problem with a new USB 3.0 flash drive recently. It would not show up in either of my PC's two front USB 2.0 ports.

I then remembered that I had some rear USB 3.0 ports. I plugged it in to one of them and there it was!

Do you have something like Disk Utility in Fedora?

See if it shows up there.

Some USB3 pendrives are not backwards compatible, therefore you can't see their contents via a USB2 socket.

If your machine doesn't have USB3 sockets, & you want the speed, there are some PCI cards with USB3 ports available.

Most of the time, your usb should show up with the lsblk command

Step 1) With usb NOT plugged in
Code:
lsblk
Step 2) With usb plugged in
Code:
lsblk
Step 3) Compare output, determine usb /dev/sdX
Step 4)
Code:
mount /dev/sdX /yourmountpointhere
Step 5) ???
Step 6) Profit

Sorry, watching the game. Did it without the drive plugged in. I redid it with it and edited my post.

you also need to install
usbutils - for lsusb to get rid of command not found
and
pciutils - for lspci to get rid of command not found

so your output looks like this but yours not mine
Code:
[~]>>$ lsusb
Bus 004 Device 004: ID 03f0:231d Hewlett-Packard Broadcom 2070 Bluetooth Combo
Bus 004 Device 003: ID 0461:4dce Primax Electronics, Ltd
Bus 004 Device 005: ID 19d2:0307 ZTE WCDMA Technologies MSM
Bus 004 Device 002: ID 8087:0024 Intel Corp. Integrated Rate Matching Hub
Bus 004 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub
Bus 006 Device 002: ID 1058:0827 Western Digital Technologies, Inc.
Bus 006 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0003 Linux Foundation 3.0 root hub
Bus 005 Device 002: ID 4971:8013 SimpleTech
Bus 005 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub
Bus 003 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0003 Linux Foundation 3.0 root hub
Bus 002 Device 002: ID 046d:c077 Logitech, Inc. M105 Optical Mouse
Bus 002 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub
Bus 001 Device 002: ID 8087:0024 Intel Corp. Integrated Rate Matching Hub
Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub
No "command not found"

Could be a problem if the USB drive is formatted in exFAT versus FAT32 (or other)...

If you're on a Ubuntu-based distro try installing the exFAT support:
Code:
sudo apt-get install exfat-fuse exfat-utils
