What do you mean by update?

In terms of hardware, probably the cheapest and easiest bet is memory. You can find some cheap 512MB sticks for those.

In terms of software: May I suggest compiling your own linux kernel, this would give you some boost in performance at the cost of it taking a long time to compile on your machine. You could always do Gentoo, but that would really take a long time to install. Ive done it before on P2's and it took a couple of days!

Hope that helps?

thanx. i was hoping i might be abls to swap the processor or something (if i could get hold of one). ive tried installing gentoo before on the dual boot box (2.6 amd sempron) and it blew my head up almost
ive not that long been using linux, every other time id uninstall it and go back to the other os

Yeah, well I think you probably could swap the processor, however if the processor is compatible with you motherboards chipset it probably isnt much better. You might get away with a little faster pentium3 processor.

I run FC4 on a PIII 1ghz and it runs fine(has a raid0 non boot drive). Ebay usually has lots of processors. Check what your motherboard is and bios version at boot.

You may be better off just buying a main box from newegg. Last time I looked they had some decent deals for $250 (no monitor, keyboard, os etc) for 754 amds.
