need information on eval boards for embedded development

Hello,

I want to do some embedded development (infact learn).
I have never done it before.
I have following questions.

1) Can someone suggest, a good PowerPC 82XX based eval boards and also BSD?

2) Is there any open source kernel for embedded development?
3) Is it worth to go to Montavista or TimeSys?

Thanks,
Satyen

Indeed an interesting field, it's usually the manufacturers of chips for embedded systems that produce evaluation boards to show their products off / give a development platform. Sooo, I'd goto the various maufacturer's websites and look for them there, I know RS (http://rswww.com) sell various eval boards and embedded PC boards...

Hope this helps!

edit:

Motorola manufacture PowerPC chips, and a standard PPC kernel *should* work.
