need help with patch....

I am using mandrake 10, and have run across a problem using a proxim 8470-wd cardbus wifi card.

from dmesg:
Code:

PCI:  Failed to allocate resource 0(e2010000-e2004fff) for 0000:02:00.0
Notice how the starting memory loc is higher than the ending point.

I found this info on kernel.org:

bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1840

Code:

Distribution: gentoo with 2.6.0 kernel, Cardservices/PCMCIA compiled in
Hardware Environment: embedded PC (VIA Eden), Proxim 8480-WD IEEE802.11a/b/g
WiFi-Card (CardBus)
Software Environment: MadWifi-Driver
Problem Description:
After inserting a Proxim 8480-WD card, the following error is reported to syslog:

"PCI: Failed to allocate ressource 0 (ef010000-ef003fff)"

Note that start address > end address.
The card does not initialize and so the MadWifi does not find the card.
(I tested serval cards of the same model - same error)

There is a patch posted there, but I do not know:
1) does it apply to my distribtion?
2) how to apply the patch?
3) do I really need to recompile the whole kernel to do this?
3) can I just recompile the module (instructions?)

Thanks

g

I tried recompiling/installing just the modules for pcmica, that did not work.

Then I tried recompiling the whole kernel and modules...

That was a major train wreck. Suprised my PC even booted after that one! lol

any help out there?

g
