Need help trying to build madwifi driver
Someone stop me, if there's an easier way.
Environment: Brand new Etch install on laptop. Goal: get my %#$@!'n wireless going. status: trying to build/make/install/whatever madwifi drivers because I don't think they're in there to begin with? Problem: error msg right from start: "/lib/modules/2.6.18-4-686/build: No such file or directory" My guess: I don't have kernel source installed and I need it? Please help.... Thank you. |
I have three atheros cards and they all work perfectly with Ubuntu. I never had to compile anything though. Why not just use the packages provided for you? Either way you go though here are some webpages that might help you a long.

What do you mean the packages already provided?
|
I mean that if you have the proper repositories enabled you should be able to do something like:
Code:
apt-get install madwifi-ng |
I'm almost completely new to Linux (but by no means to computers and OS's). I don't know what a repository is.
|
"Couldn't find package madwifi-ng"
|
Okay, figured out how to get kernel source but
once I have the madwifi driver created, how do I load it at startup?
