I have installed ubuntu 8.10 , By default ubuntu comes with some xserver-xorg-video-intel which gives me resolution upto 1280x1024.

I have a Samsung 22' LCD monitor which supports upto 1680x1050.

I downloaded and installed latest intel graphics driver from
intellinuxgraphics.org.

And following the suggestions found online I edited my Xorg file in different ways but it is unable to use my newly installed driver.
It says 'intel no device found' .

Can anyone plese help me?

I see 3 drivers there, one of which is stable. I assume that the latest stable driver is the one already in Ubuntu 8.10. Why not just use the one installed on the system by default which works? Is there something missing that you hope to find in the downloaded driver?

The driver in ubuntu is not the latest as far as I am concerned.

I want the latest driver because the current driver doesn't support the
native resolution of my monitor (1680x1050).

And with 1280x1024 , webpages and all the graphical content looks bizaare on my monitor.
