Need a compatible video card for Intel motherboard
 

I have an Intel motherboard that has a built-in video card. (http://www.intel.com/products/mother...65RY/index.htm) I plug my monitor directly into the motherboard.

The problem is that about 1 in 3 times I boot up my Linux box, the monitor just flashes a blue screen forever. I take this to mean that the video card built in to the motherboard is not compatible with Linux.

So I think I’ll buy a video card to plug into my motherboard and see if that improves the situation. Instead of plugging my monitor into the video card built in to the motherboard, I will plug into the new video card. I just want to make sure I buy a video card that is compatible with my motherboard and Linux.

I’m running Red Hat Enterprise Linux ES release 4 (Nahant Update 4).

i suggest getting a Nvidia card...

Before you buy the card you might try booting a recent Live CD like Knoppix and see if the problem persists. It's possible a more up-to-date driver will fix your problem. Strange that it is intermittent - could it be a hardware problem?

If you install a new video card you may still have the problem of finding and installing the right driver. I'm not familiar with your RH distro so I don't know how recent it is.
