MythTV, TYAN Tiger MPX, Dual Athlon MP?

I'm planning on building a dedicated MythTV box and music server using the following components

Tyan Tiger MPX mobo
2 - Athlon 1600 MP
Creative Audigy sound card
LSI megaRAID SATA 150-2
2 - 160MB Seagate Sata Drives
2 - Hauppauge 250-PVR cards
1 - DVD burner???

Does anyone have a feel for AMD SMP and MythTV? What video card would be a solid choice for TV out on Linux? Is DVD burning on Linux mature enough?

Thanks,
Nate

It should work. I'm having trouble installing MythTV because it needs QT version 3.1 or latest version. It also needs libfreetype2. I do not know if MythTV can be threaded to take advantage of that system. Before picking what distribution version you want to install, check what package versions it uses. For sound card, I would not use any Creative Lab sound cards because they have poor sound quality. I have a Turtle Beach Santa Cruz. It has much better than Creative Labs sound cards and yes it can output to 6 channels (5.1 channel setup). The easiest video card to setup is nVidia and it can easily output to TV if you want it to. It is possible to use ATI but it is going to take some late nights to set it up.

You may have trouble with libpostproc during compiling. What I did is comment out the line(s) that is giving me the problem. There are two ways to comment in C or C++. One is // for single lines and the other is /* */ for multiple lines.

Thanks for the reply. I want to make the myth box a music server, nfs server, PVR, and a kickstart server. SMP and motherboard selection is more for the 66MHz 64-bit slots, the GigE and SATA raid card I have can use them(66MHz 32-bit). The SATA RAID card's functionality is in the frimware so I figure one processor will be tied up with disk IO.

The 250-PVR, Santa Cruz, Intel GigE and nVidia Card have there own processing resources onboard, so they shouldn't require much CPU. If anyone of them do, the other processor should be able to handle it.

Thanks for the suggestion,
Nate
