Having trouble installing a piece of hardware? Want to know if that peripheral is compatible with Linux?

Mysterious disappearance

Hi, I'm multi booting with Slackware 11, VectorLinux 5.8 and WinXP. Just purchased a Dvico Fusion HDTV dual digital card to watch tv. It works fine in XP (amazing!) but is not even recognized as existing in any of the linux distros I have tried. (including Knoppix and Kubuntu 7.04 live cd's)
It does not show up at all in the control panel > pci list nor dmesg.
Maybe there is an irq problem? The same pci slot worked fine in both linux and XP when the previous tv card (Compro T300) was installed.
I have done some google searching to try and figure out the next step but no luck.
Any suggestions. Thanks.

A quick Google for the device name lead me to some MythTV related documentation.

http://www.users.on.net/~jani/dvico-mythtv.html

The implication seems to be that there are presently no drivers in the kernel tree for that card (I could be wrong). One particular section of that howto talks about building the driver from source.

http://www.users.on.net/~jani/dvico-mythtv-5.html#ss5.2

I think that’s going to be your best way forward for the moment.

solved

Okay, after a little more digging the mystery has finally been solved.
This site has the instructions on what to do. http://fremnet.net/article/228/dvico...-4-under-linux

I did NOT follow his advice about editing the first patch and everything still worked fine.
Thanks to Shannon and all geeks, newbs and nurds who help one another.
Cheers, catonic.
