Mylex AcceleRAID 170 under Debian 3.0rc1

Hi there,

can anybody tell me, if the Mylex AcceleRAID 170 is now fully supported by the 2.4.22-Kernel?

I remember, one year ago you had to update an old 2.4.12 kernel with the patch provided by Dandelion.com.

Is this still necessary?

I plan to install Debian 3.0rc1. Unfortunately, on the HCL, insufficient informations are given.

Thanks guys.

If you browse the Documentation directory of the untarred kernel source you'll see a relevant file - README.DAC960.

Some snippets from it:
Quote:
The Linux DAC960
driver supports all current Mylex PCI RAID controllers including the new
eXtremeRAID 2000/3000 and AcceleRAID 352/170/160 models which have an entirely
new firmware interface from the older eXtremeRAID 1100, AcceleRAID 150/200/250,
and DAC960PJ/PG/PU/PD/PL
...and, under the list of supported devices:

Quote:
AcceleRAID 170
1 Wide Ultra-160 LVD SCSI channel
100MHz Intel i960RM RISC Processor
16MB/32MB/64MB ECC SDRAM Memory
Read it yourself.

Hi Håkan,

thanks for your reply.
The implementation of the DAC960 driver required a patching of the kernel at that time (Rel.2.4.12).

As you can read in the doc of the actual Kernel-release, there is written:

"This distribution was prepared for Linux kernel version 2.2.19 or 2.4.12."

So I wonder...
I am not sure, but I guess, I found an option for loading the DAC960-driver as a module, when recompiling the kernel.

But I am not sure...

It looks like the driver was merged with the official Linux source tree at about 2.4.12, yes.

I believe the 'vanilla' and/or 'Compact' flavours support the DAC960 but the first one you should try is bf24. Type bf24 at the boot prompt when you boot from the CD.

Trying won't hurt.
