My Sound wont work

Well i went to the main menu, than to system settings, than to soundcard detection. It played the two sounds and it had the name of my soundcard but my sound still doesnt work. The first time i tried to play a cd it said something about a patent licensing and i clicked the thin to not show this ever again...so it doesn't come up anymore.. How can i get my sound to work?

Join the club. You might not be able to get it to work. No sound is a very popular problem, and from everything I've learned so far, the solution if there is one for your system, which there may not be, can be as unique as the many different sound problems.

Here's my 2c worth. I'm guessing you have Redhat or maybe Mandrake. There is some sort of patent/license dispute over the mp3 format, and as a good corporate citizen, RH is steering clear.

You need to install an mp3 player. Hopefully some RH person can advise, otherwise you could look for an RPM package at http://www.rpmfind.net. The most basic thing is the command line program mpg123.

If you hear system sounds I think your hardware & drivers must be OK.

Playing audio CDs is a different process altogether, and not something I ever do.

HEY! i have a sound problem and i've seen dozens of threads but no-one has resolved my problem (i''ve reached the fase where i should create sound device file - no answer on that)
there's really no need to offend me - you obviously haven't seen all those threads dealing the SAME problem...
and if you plan to use this language, i think you should post some other forum
