My SigmaTel STAC9200 will not work

I'm running Fedora Core 6 on a Gateway laptop. When I run the test, it pauses (like it's playing) but no sounds come out.

You have a good start to the information needed to figure this out. But more is needed. Could you run this script and post the resulting link?

Thanks

theriddle 06-13-2007 10:49 AM

Here it is: http://pastebin.ca/564359
I wish I had known about this site. System-config-soundcard gave a lot more info, which I had to strip to stay within the limit.

In case you ask about the 'Off-hook' and 'Caller ID' controls, here is what happens when I try to un-mute them:

Mono: Playback [on]
# amixer sget 'Off-hook'

# amixer sget 'Caller ID'

The "Off-Hook" and "Caller-ID" nodes are for the modem portion.

First thing you should do is download and install alsa-driver-1.0.14 from alsa-project.org. It has support for your sound chip, but not necessarily for your system. After you have the new drivers running, we can add your system to the configuration.

theriddle 06-17-2007 06:08 PM

Still no sound :(. Any other ideas?

GrueMaster 06-20-2007 11:14 AM

What model is your Gateway system? I'd like to look over the Windows driver package, as Sigmatel drivers have the verb tables in the ini/inf files.

Also, try loading the driver with "modprobe snd-hda-intel model=ref". If that works, then we can simply add your device ID. Otherwise, I'll need to do more research.

theriddle 06-21-2007 01:24 AM

No, model=ref does not make the sound work  .

I am using a Gateway MT3707 (http://support.gateway.com/s/Mobile/...014372Rnv.shtm).

i have the same laptop and this helped me fix the sound.

[SOLVED]

I have a notebook Gateway MT3707. Installed Mandriva 2008.0.
I'm newbie using linux. Appreciate if someone can tell me the steps I need to follow in order to have the soundcard working properly.
I'm trying to follow the steps provided on this link:
https://bugtrack.alsa-project.org/al...ew.php?id=3036
but as I mention I'm a newbie guy in linux and don't really understand where I can start.

Appreciate your support.

Thanks

theriddle 10-15-2007 11:30 AM

I'm not that familiar with Mandriva, so I'll have to ask a few ?s about it.

* Do you know how to use your package manager. If so, does it list a alsa-drivers package?

Yes I know how to use the package manager. And yes it list the alsa-drivers package. The driver is installed automatically during the OS system installation. The driver boot ok, you see the sound icon in gnome, but once you play something you never hear sound. It seems that required some modification in some where which I dont know where in order to fix it. Appreciate your support!

Regards.

Same problem I had.

Since it lists the alsa-driver package, we get to save ourselves a lot of work (think building a new kernel) by simply removing the package.

Another question: Do you have a kernel-devel package installed? If not, please install it.

If you try to uninstall alsa-driver (tell it no when it asks if you're sure), does it prepare to remove half your system?
