Question Multiple Monitors

I currently have a voodoo3 in my agp slot, and i was wondering if it would be easy to add one or more pci graphics cards to my system. I'm using redhat 9.

should i try to get a specific video card that would be compatible for sure or does it not really matter?

Using multiple video cards to drive multiple displays is tricky to say the least. i've never seen someone do it before. Not to say that it's impossible, but it's very rare. If you're looking for dual monitors, just get one of the newer cards that has support for dual monitors.

Multiple monitors, running one on each montior has been around for many ages, even back to the 68k macs and windows 95. While I have never tried to accomplish multiple monitors in linux, I do know that there are howto's floating about.

Try looking here:
http://www.faqs.org/docs/howtos3.html

and if that isn't enough, search google for:
linux "multiple monitor" howto

---

As for what video card to use, that depends on what you will use it for. As always, check compatibility before buying.

Honestly, pop the other card in there... if you can get another voodoo3 for cheap that would be nice, or really, dual-head cards are cheap... and X will configure itself:

X -configure

Tweaking it down is a headache, but I've got one machine with an ATI 128 and a Voodoo3 and another machine with a dual-head Matrox G550 and a Riva TNT2, its much easier then it seems, but it takes some hand hacking of /etc/X11/XF86Config and a little patience.

Cheers,

Finegan

nah, that's really not true at all a dual card dual head system is very easy to configure. if you can get a working configuration for eafch head seperately, then making them both work together is nothing more than a little cut and paste andd an extra line, it's very simple really....
