multiple hardrives

Hi, im been working with linux for a while, and my small hardrive has almost reached its limit, so im probably going to go buy another one, to be used with my existing one.
I've never done this befor and would like some insight into what I would have to do, like if a can just add a new one without having to re-install,
or any problems im might encounter.

I would like to get this new hardrive soon, maybe even tomorow, so if you have any knowledge on the subject, please don't be afraid to reply.
I'm running slackware 10, and use lilo on a floppy, if that makes any difference.

nope its simple, just install it, boot up format it, make a folder to mount it in, and then add it to /etc/fstab and mount it (assuming you don't have any funkey hardware issues like i'm having)

What edman said. You might want to put your home directories on the new drive. This is what I did when I was running out of space. I moved my /home directories to the new drive. My fstab file now looks like this:

Code:
/dev/hda3 swap swap defaults 0 0
/dev/hda2 / ext2 defaults 1 1
/dev/hdb1 /home ext2 defaults 1 1
So my second drive (hdb) the first partition contains my home directories. On my first drive (hda), the second partition has my filesystem root (/).

In order to move your home directories, you'll have to first mount your new drive, then copy over the data, then edit fstab like the above. Make sure the copy worked, then delete the old /home data from your hda. Then reboot.

Note that you do not need to have a directory named '/home' on you new hdb for this example. If you currently have /home/user1 and /home/user2 on your hda, when you move them to hbd, you'll just need to have /user1 and /user2 directories. When they are mounted, they will look to the users like /home/user1 and /home/user2 because /home will then be a mount point.

Oh yeah, and don't forget that you have to make a filesystem after you format and partition. I used mke2fs to make an ext2 filesystem. You'll probably want to use a more modern filesytem, but I'm an old timer and go with what I know and trust.
