MSI P965 Gigabit NIC Trouble - Opensuse

HI,

When i first installed Opensus my nic worked, i then made a huge mistake experimenting and had to reinstall. so i wiped my drive and reinstalled. now the nic does not work. I am currently using my alternate os to type this on the same computer, so i know that it works (the nic anyways). My router assigns IPs to the network.

I have tried ifconfig eth0 up and no good. ethtool eth0 shows no connection.

I am using Opensuse 10.2 with the kernel => kernel-default-2.6.21_rc7-43.1.x86_64

My Hardware is as follows

CPU : Intel C2D E6400 (Stock)
Mobo: MSI P965 Platinum <= Linky, i bought the board for its raid features..
Sound : Creative Audigy 2ZS

Can someone please help?

PS I can get anything off the linux distro as i have usb and also FUSE and NTFS-3G too

Thanks

Easy

From the MSI link posted above:

LAN

• Realtek® RTL8111B
- Supports 10/100/1000 Mb/s.
- PCI-Express interface.
- Supports ACPI Power Management.

Nic uses the R8169 driver.

/sbin/modprobe r8169

then bring the interface up. Not sure how Suse loads modules at boot, perhaps try this:

Edit /etc/modprobe.conf, add the line...

alias eth0 r8169

That's weird, I have the exact same onboard NIC on my ASUS P5B. Works out of the box with Suse (and all the rest since about two monts).
