Unhappy MSI GeForge FX 5200

Hi Guys,
I have some problems.. I have installed RedHat 9.0.. First when i start to installation, my monitör goes standby mode.. While Probe proccesing Linux can not identify my VGA card.. It was "VESA Generic" or something like that.. So i installed linux in text mode.. When installation finished, it asked me about my VGA card.. i chose FX Series and 1024*768 resolution and 16-Bit.. Now when Xserver (or whatever- lets say graphical interface) starts my monitör goes standby mode.. I can not use linux anymore...
Guys Please help me.. I really bored with this.. I want to use Linux..

My Configuration;
15" LG LCD monitor
Celeron 1.7 Mhz CPU
256 MB DDR 333 Mhz Ram
MSI GeForge FX 5200
80 GB Samsung 7200 RPM HDD
MSI Sis 645 6737 Combo Mainboard

did you install the nvidia drivers, or are you just experimenting with generic only right now?
and i am not sure what generic driver you chose cause the only one i know of is "NVIDIA (generic)" which is number 18 in the list ... when you run xf86config ..

You will want to go to Nvidia's Linux driver page and get the IA32 drivers. Installing those isn't too hard: change to runlevel 3 (do an LQ search on that one), make sure the kernel headers are installed, and then run the Nvidia installer as root. You then need to make some changes to your XF86Config file, as per the Nvidia driver's README. Then restart X and see what happens.

etc/inittab (this controls the startup of Linux)
Here is a sample:
# Default runlevel. The runlevels used by RHS are:
# 0 - halt (Do NOT set initdefault to this)
# 1 - Single user mode
# 2 - Multiuser, without NFS (The same as 3, if you do not have networking)
# 3 - Full multiuser mode
# 4 - unused
# 5 - X11
# 6 - reboot (Do NOT set initdefault to this)
#
id:5:initdefault:

i got this from other forums.. In selecting OS menu what should i enter as a command line..

initrd /boot/initrd2-2.4.20-8.img there is that line in linux section..
What is the command line to run Red Hat linux in text mode on start up screen?

In /etc/inittab change
Code:
id:5:initdefault:
to
Code:
id:3:initdefault:
and reboot.

Alternatively, as root in a terminal (Konsole, gnome-terminal, xterm, etc.), type
Code:
init 3
This will get you out of X.
