Hi all!

I have some problems with sound on Gentoo system.

When i try play mp3 track, i get message:

From Totem:
You do not have a decoder installed to handle this file. You might need to install the necessary plugins.

From RhythmBox:
Unable to activate plugin Cover art

From madplay:
audio: /dev/dsp: No such file or directory

When I tested the sound, through the Settings->Sound, the sound is avaliable...

Ok, it's not your sound system that's the problem, it is configured correctly. You need to install a codec to play mp3 files. I don't know how to do that in Gentoo, sorry!

Look at this link: http://gentoo-wiki.com/HOWTO_Emerge_MPlayer, Might help you....

When I try to play mp3 through mplayer, it is produced. To play mp3 files I use RhytmhBox. But now is not working, no program except for mplayer.

My make.conf file:

# These settings were set by the catalyst build script that automatically
# built this stage.
# Please consult /etc/make.conf.example for a more detailed example.
CFLAGS="-O2 -mtune=i686 -pipe"
CXXFLAGS="-O2 -mtune=i686 -pipe"
# WARNING: Changing your CHOST is not something that should be done lightly.
# Please consult http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/change-chost.xml before changing.
CHOST="i686-pc-linux-gnu"
