Moving swap to another small IDE drive
Hi All,
I have a slow 350mhz system. I wanted to help speeding up the reads by moving the swap to a 415meg hard drive that I have no other use for.
The system only has 2 drives- hda and hdc1. hdc is the 415meg drive.
I used fdisk to delete old data on the 415meg disk.
What would be the proper way to partition the new swap disk- as an extended drive or primary drive?
I know I can set it to swap by using the 't' command and using '82'.
Next, what would be the commands to format and the set the drive for swap?
What is a proper way to configure the fstab file?
After I config'ed everything, the bootup says, swap 'failed'. Then later it says setting swap 'ok'. The system comes up ok and I can log in. I checked system monitor and I get no swap activity.
I'm not sure what's going on.
Please let me know what other info you'd need to analyze this.
thanks and regards,
Vince
