Moving from hdc to hda - Kernel panic

First I had my Debian HD on the primairy slot of the secondairy IDE interface (Harddisk was hdc) and I reconnected it to the primairy slot of the primairy IDE (it should be hda now???).

Config:
I have two removable HD-slots (trays) in my PC. One on the IDE1 and one on the IDE2 connector, so that I can switch between Debian and Windooz by switching the key of a tray on or off.

Now I am migrating totaly to Debian, and want to use the Debian HD (which was hdc, secondairy IDE, primairy master) as hda (primairy IDE, primairy master).

After connecting the HD to the primairy IDE, primair master and booting, I get the error message:
mount: fs type devfs not supported by kernel
umount: devfs not mounted
mount: fs type devfs not supported by kernel
umount: devfs not mounted
(
pivot_root: No such file or direcory

And a few lines after it a Kerner panic.....

Any ideas? HD moved from hdc to hda, that is the core message.

"HD moved from hdc to hda, that is the core message."

You need to make changes to /etc/fstab and your bootloader configuration file before you switch the drive address. If you are using lilo you also need to reinstall lilo on the MBR.

Solved!

I did change all hdc entries to hda in /etc/fstab and lilo.conf after booting with Knoppix. I mounted hda with RW rights trhough the desktop of Knoppix and did a chroot to /mnt/hda1.

Lilo however gave a lot of error massages and did not write the lilo.conf file. Tried a lot until I found the solution:

After booting with Knoppix, run a terminal and type
su
mkdir tmp-root
mount /dev/hda1 /tmp-root

After this lilo.real runs without errors!!!
