Mouse problem in SuSE 9.3
 

Hello!

On my desktop computer (SUSE 9.3 Pro) there are two users. The mouse works for the first user, but not for the second one, which kind of bewilders me, because it's the same mouse (a Dell Intelli/Wheel USB Mouse) inserted at the same bus. A couple of minutes ago, I had the same problem being logged in as the first user, but I fixed it by opening YaST>Hardware>Mouse - without altering a bit, it started functioning again. I tried the same for the second user, but there still no sign of the mouse... Funny is that the mouse worked until this morning for all users, which it should!

Any suggestions to solve this?

Check /etc/group to see users's permissions.

It's not SuSE but KDE bug.
It has been already reported to KDE team. Also try not to change the theme for mouse or you'll lose it altogether

The problem now returns every time I reboot the system. The mouse does not work, but when I start the Yast>Hardware>Mouse - without doing anything, just starting the module - the mouse moves again. If it is a bug, it has suddenly appeared, because it wasn't there before two days ago...

Have you tried changing mouse themes? Member reported this bug after theme change. Anyway, try to autorepair with Install Disk.
Boot from DVD=>Installation=>Repair Installed system=>automatic repair
or manual if you're confident enough

I've just tried repairing the system and it found 2 files that were not in their original state (minimal system). However, these two packages did not do the job for the mouse. In the installation programme (YaST) the mouse worked perfectly as it always does when I go to YaST, but in KDE it simply does not function.

As I mentioned earlier this bug belongs to KDE. It happened on my laptop when I changed mouse theme. I lost mouse at all. And no matter what I did, in yast and xorg,that pitiful rat didn't come back as well. To be honest with you, I just reinstalled SuSE on my Laptop. Sometimes the Gordian knot is supposed to be cleft. ;)

I probably have to reinstall the whole lot of 'em... But what really bothers me still is that the mouse works for one user on my desktop everytime I start the mouse thing from YaST (not SaX2) and for the other user absolutely not. Moreover, I have a laptop with exactly the same configuration and programmes and there the mouse works perfectly. Maybe it's back one update or so, but there it goes perfectly. That's what bothers me... If installing the old configuration from the DVD helps, then it must be a bug in an update from KDE. Is there a way to uninstall them?

Yep, reinstalled the whole lot and now the mouse walks again! Well, some KDE update must be erronous... Be careful, people!

I noticed, by trial and error, that updating kernel causes this bug. I sent mail to Novell already

How do I know what updates to install and which not? I haven't installed since I re-installed SuSE?

I am experiencing the same mouse problem as mentioned before. However, I can reproduce it by installing the NVidia Graphics driver using YOU. If I disable the 3D acceleration in SaX2, the mouse works properly again. With the NVidia driver, I have to fire up yast first, go to the mouse selection hit the "test" key and then it works again.
