mouse not found on boot
 

hi.
One question:
i have a switch for mouse/keyboard and monitor. on the first Comp im running WIN XP Pro and want to install Fedora on the second.
when i boot from the linux CD Linux checks the hardware and it says keyboard and mouse (PS/2) is found but when the gui starts my mouse is not woking.
on Win XP its working so it have to be a linux problem.
Someone a idea??!

First thing. Check that the PS/2 port is enabled in PC's BIOS. Just because it's found, doesn't mean it's enabled.
If it is, can you use the desktop control panel from your keyboard and configure the mouse from there?

the port is enabled...
i first of all try to install linux...so no control panal.

Sorry if I misunderstood, you said that your mouse wouldn't work when your GUI started up so I assumed you had X windows working.
It sounds as if you are going to have to do a text-based install instead of using the GUI. Then you can configure your mouse from the command line. Make sure you have your hardware details to hand then, after booting, log in as root and run xorg.conf. Follow the onscreen prompts and take your time; you can't go back so if you make a mistake you have to start again.

If it helps, I pulled this information from the ILUG website:

"If you're using a KVM, you need to make sure that all machines
treat the mouse as a three button, or all as a two button.
Sometimes, all as a two button is the only option, if you're
kvm isn't behaving (some kvms reset the mouse to 2 button).

The serial protocols are different for 2 vs 3 button (3-byte
vs 5 byte), so when you switch between machines, they get
confused when the mouse uses the 'other' protocol from what
they were expecting.

From this it seems that a KVM switch can do strange things to your mouse settings, so if all else fails you could try disconnecting your KVM while you set up your Linux Box, then reconnect it afterwards.
