Mouse moving only up and down

Hi all,

I would hate to post a question covered before but this is surely a repeat question. I have found an answer to it but I can only find a temp. fix and not a permanent one. I hope you can help.

When I boot linux Mandrake and the log in screen appears (GUI). My MS Intellimouse Explorer USB only will move up and down and not left to right.

I can fix it by Ctrl & Alt & F3 to another terminal and do the following command after logging in as root,
modprobe -r usbmouse
then
modprobe hid
(I found this fix in an archive message here)

Then back to the GUI log in and my mouse works perfectly.

This I have to do every boot up.

Does anyone have a permanent fix? If you need anymore info please ask.

Cheers Al

My solution was to put:
/sbin/rmmod usbmouse

in my rc.local.

/etc/rc.local runs at boot, last thing before you see a prompt.

I did exactly what m0rl0ck suggested in post #2 and it worked for me. I suggest you do the same. Good luck, Cheers Al
