I installed Redhat 9.0 on kernel 2.4.20-8.
During the installation Anakonda reconized my mouse but after the installation I couldn't use my mouse (in X windows).
I have a serial Microsoft mouse. During the installation I chose:
generic - 2 buttons (serial).
The same problem happened in Redhat 8.0.
The content of the /etc/X11/XF86config file is as follows:
Section "InputDevice"
Identifier "Mouse"
Driver "mouse"
Option "Device" "/dev/ttyS0"
Option Protocol "Microsoft"
Option "Emulate3buttons" "yes"
Option "ZXisMapping" "4 5"
EndSection
The XF86Config is for version 3 of X.
If you are using XFree 4.x, then the configuration file is XF86Config-4
If the configuration is the same in the other file, try looking at the log file for X. It may contain some useful info.
The log may be in /var/log/XFree86.0.log
