Mouse difficulties

I am trying to switch from using a microsfot ps/2 serial mouse to a dell / logitech USB mouse.

If i simply plugin the USB mouse, it works.
If I then remove the serial mouse, then on startup xwindows crashes.
If I remove the serial mouse and then on startup remove the configuration of the "Generic PS/2 Wheel Mouse", then the USB mouse doesn't work.

So as it is, i can have both connected and working, but not just the USB mouse.

What can I do?

Check your XF86Config-4 file and add

Option "SendCoreEvents" Yes

to the USB-mouse InputDevice section. Also, you mioght want to set

Option "AllowMouseOpenFail" Yes

so your Xserver will start even with no mouse found.

I don't have a XF86FConfig-4 file, must XF86Config, so I assume this is the file to modfiy.
I don't see a USB-mouse input device section. There is this:

# If the normal CorePointer mouse is not a USB mouse then
# this input device can be used in AlwaysCore mode to let you
# also use USB mice at the same time.
Identifier "DevInputMice"
Driver "mouse"
Option "Protocol" "IMPS/2"
Option "Device" "/dev/input/mice"
Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5"
Option "Emulate3Buttons" "no"
EndSection

For AllowMouseOpenFail Option, would that go in the following section:

Section "InputDevice"
Identifier "Mouse0"
Driver "mouse"
Option "Protocol" "IMPS/2"
Option "Device" "/dev/psaux"
Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5"
Option "Emulate3Buttons" "no"
EndSection
