Mouse Buttons?

I have a MX700 mouse from Logitech and I like it very much. It has 2 buttons near the thumb rest for backwards and forwards which works great in XP using IE and Firefox.

The problem is it does not seem to work in Linux. At least without configuration. I am trying to see if it's possible to configure these buttons to what they seem to do nativly in XP. Has anyone ever got these to work?

When I use them in Linux, they just copy and paste or something of that nature.

What do they natively do in Windows? Are you using Debian with this mouse?
I found this thread about extra mouse buttons on a Gentoo (which is debian based) forum, perhaps it can help you out.

In Windows, the buttons go back and forward a page via the browser however in Linux, it does not seem to work and I think it just may need some configuration as the buttons do something in Linux, just not what they are suppose to do. I will review that link.
