Mounting USB Thumbdrive as non-root?
Is there anyone here who knows how to mount/umount usb thumbdrives as a non-root user? I'm using Redhat Linux 7.3. Really need help in this. Thanks!

Add an entry to your /etc/fstab similair to this one:
Code:
/dev/sda1 /mnt/jumpdrive vfat noauto,user,rw 0 0 |
I cannot edit my /etc/fstab as i'm a non-root user. As i only have certain computers that i can access as root, i need to use my thumbdrive on pcs that i have no root access. is there a workaround for non-root users? Thanks

On the machines where you don't have root access to mount your thumbdrive or edit /etc/fstab, i believe it best to ask an administrator to mount it for you, or ask him to edit /etc/fstab.

If that's the case then how do i actually continue to use my thumbdrive when i'm logged in as a non-root user? I noticed that i only can write and mount/unmount as root but not as a non-root user where i actually tried unmounting but the files still shows in konqueror. Thanks!

You need to pass the 'users' or 'user' (with 'user', only the person who mounted the device can unmount it. With 'users', anyone can unmount it) option to the mount command:
e.g. mount -t vfat /dev/sda /mnt/usbstick -o users,sync |
maybe better would be to mount it to a folder in your home directory, so anyone else logged into the sae system can't see it.
