mounting usb storage

Hello,

I am trying to connect my camera (Pentax *ist Ds, with an SD card) to my pc (debian sarge) via usb. i cannot mount it as a mass storage medium:

mount /dev/sda1 /mnt/camera/
mount: /dev/sda1 is not a valid block device

dmesg says:
hub.c: new USB device 02:01.2-4, assigned address 11
usb_control/bulk_msg: timeout
usb.c: USB device not accepting new address=11 (error=-110)

cat /proc/scsi/scsi
Attached devices: none

I have all the necessary kernel options enabled

Can someone help me?
Thanks in advance

Is your camera on and set to Mass Storage Device mode? I know my Goodmans 5030Z has PictBridge printing, USB MSD and windows-only webcam modes which I can change via the onscreen menu.
