Question Mounting DVD-ROM Drive


Hi,
I just bought a new DVD-Rom drive for my box, and I now need to get it working under linux....I have no idea how to do this. I am running Mandrake 9.1, can anyone help?

okay, mandrakes based off of redhat so..........it should use kudzu for hardware detection, this is turned on in redhat by default, just stick in the drive and see if it works. if not cd into /etc/init.d/rc.d and "ls". you should see kudzu, log in as root and run "./kuzu start" if you want to get dvd playback install libdvdnav and libdvdread rpms. you should be able to find them on the web. i use xine to play my dvd's. to actually specify a dvd drive though your going to have to make a symbolic link to the drive or use /dev/cdrom as your dvd drive. the command to make a soft symbolic link is "ln -s /dev/cdrom /dev/dvd" post a reply if you still have problems
