Mounting an iPod 3rd Gen

I'm a real newbie, so I can't seem to consitently be able to get my 3rd gen iPod to mount in Linux; it only mounted once and I have no clue what i did to get my iPod to do that. I tried searching around the archive here, but I only found things for the 4th gen on, which leads me to believe I'm just missing something small or whatever. I'm using Fedora Core 3 and the kernel version is 2.6.10-1.714_FC3.

Any help that you all could give me would be very much appreciated

Thanks!
