Where is the drive?????: tail /var/log/messages

mount -t ext2 /dev/XXXy /mnt/some/where -o rw

Use the output from the first command to figure out which drive and partition the media is, for example it could be /dev/sdc1 or ??????

FYI: not a good idea to have an external hard drive formatted as ext3 if used on multiple systems.

Some suggested reading;

man mount
man fstab
man tail
