Hi,

I'm trying to mount my cd. I typed

mount -t iso9660 /dev/cdrom /mnt/cdrom

but it doesn't work. The message is that /dev/cdrom isn't a valid device. Then I typed

cdrecord -scanbus

and the showed messages are:

Amanda, first things first. What do you get when you type "ls /dev"? Is there a /dev/dvd or a /dev/cdrom? If not, then that's the issue that needs to be addressed first. What type of DVD/CDROM do you have? ATA? SATA? USB? Is it actually hooked up? Has it ever worked? Is this a laptop? Other questions of that sort.

amanda, most of the time /dev/cdrom is really just a symbolic link to some other file in /dev. for example, my /dev/cdrom is linked to /dev/sr0(a usb cd/dvd drive).

What distribution??

Often in the newer distros, peripherals like CDs will be auto-detected and there will be mount points in /mnt or /media.

Also look in /etc/fstab to see if entries for the CD have been put there.

I resolved the problem! The /dev/cdrom was addressing to /dev/hdc, but the cd was in /dev/hdb. I changed the link and the mount worked!

Hi, How did tou find out that it was hdb?? Im trying to mount my floppy drive and its not working??

Im entering

mount -t vfat /dev/fd0 /mnt/floppy

HELP!!!!
