Motorola SM56 WM under Red Hat 9.

I downloaded the latest drivers for my modem (those for the kernel 2.4) and installed it and run the sm56setup all succesfully. But kppp doesnt find my modem!, it says "modem busy" or "could find your modem" things like that. I tried with all the ports /dev/modem /dev/ttsyXX and the rest, but nothing!.

In Mandrake 8 with the kernel 2.2.x worked fine.

Any tip ?

When you've loaded the modules, what appears at the end of "dmesg" as regards to the device ID that the modem gets assigned?

Cheers,

U dont have a driver that works foolproof on 7.2 or higher.. sm56.tk claims that they have a patch but i cudnt get it work.. but

u can run ur rh 9 on a 7.1 kernel provided u r not using ext3 filesystem
for that

rpm -ivh kernel 2.4.2*.rpm --force
then edi tu r grub to boot in with the 2.4.2 kernel and install the drivers ..all will work fine

infologics.tk/linux.htm for more info on how i got it work
