more memory?

i have 512MB with a 2500+, and i'm thinking about getting another 512MB. will i gain a noticeable performance boost? i usually run gnome with multiple browser windows/tabs, a few terminals, xmms/streaming audio, some taskbar applets, gui text app, and in and out of email, etc.

the thing is, i never remember seeing my swap used yet, even with a lot of apps open. so i'm wondering if it'll be worth it, or if i should save the money toward a new CPU in a few months or so.

Talking Probably not

If it's not using swap, more memory will not do much good. I have 512MBs and mine rarely uses swap. If the price drops and you want to, it won't hurt anything but I doubt you will see much difference.

Mine mostly caches programs that I use often. Doesn't have to read from the drive then.

Your call.
