Monitor Won't Configure With Video Card

I just installed a Radeon 9250 Video Card to run with my Samsung 941BW 19" Syncmaster on Linux Ubuntu 8.04.
The Xorg log read that: after searching various VESA Modes, could not find the proper screen dimensions (1400x900?).
The last entry stated: non-DDC Monitor Type.
Incompatible?

Have you installed the ATI driver from http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/Pages/index.aspx?

I think X is trying to query your monitor's capabilities using EDID. But the method you have used to connect the monitor does not allow this.
Try connecting the monitor with a different type of cable.
