Monitor receives no signal
 

Hello, my monitor is receiving no signal when it turns on. I've tested the monitor and graphics cards with different computers and they work fine. I've also tried the CLEAR CMOS jumpers on the bios but the monitor still receives no signal. I have a Nvidia Geforce AGP 6600 with a Gigabyte ULi motherboard and ubuntu linux was well as WinXP installed. I dont get display at all :cry:

No display at all? Monitor says "no signal - going to sleep"?
Is this the same with the "nv" driver as the "nvidia" driver?
Is this the same with winXP on the same machine?
Is AGP enabled in the BIOS?
AGP=first?
Does the motherboard mounted vga output still work with the agp card inserted?

The 6600 has two agp ports and a TV-OUT. Presumably you are using the correct one? (swap and see).

And lastly - lets look at /etc/X11/xorg.conf

If your card isn't dual head, and you don't even get video when the post is starting, it sounds like either a bad monitor or video card, or the video card cables or the card itself need reseating.

Well, It's not an OS issue. If your not even getting a POST and the card/monitor work on other systems then it's got to be an MB issue. Try another card in the AGP slot and if you can get a PCI card try that too... then at least you will have your answer.

Do you get any beeps on boot-up at all? Does the HD and Power Supply seem to be working...?

I think either your AGP slot is bad or you have a more serious MB issue.

The nv6600 is dual head, and as post #1 says:- the card and the monitor have been tested working in other computers. Hence Mobo or BIOS to check. We havn't been told whether they work for windows in the same machine though.

I'd go with the cable check - but if the mobo vga port is operational, I'd say the CMOS-reset has configured the mobo to use the onboard vga before the agp ... or even disabled the agp port entirely. (Or this is the pci version?)

... don't forget: AGP needs to be enabled in BIOS. There has been a CMOS-reset (using the jumpers no less!) in this setup sometime - and no indication of going into the BIOS to check anything.

well i guess that leads me to beleive that it is a mobo issue because the vga cable worked hooked up to my sisters computer. And I've done a CMOS reset before via jumpers and AGP is the default, as there is no integrated video. And I have tried using the VGA and the DVI(with VGA converter) as the output but it still didnt work =S
I guess it has to be the mobo.

Oo I forgot to mention that I just bought a new power supply for it cuz the old one broke. This new power supply doesnt have the 12v ATX connector that my motherboard manual claims is requiered for the processor to work ^_^ Would this in anyway affect my graphics booting >.<

Well, if your MB requires a 24pin connector then yes! I would say it has a lot to do with it.

lol yea i sorta guessed that...guess i gotta go buy a new power supply...thats what i get for using the one that came with my case lol

OTOH: it is pretty frustrating to go through 8 posts only to find someone didn't connect the power properly :( In this case, even reading the mobo manual didn't do the trick.

Linkhiei: it isn't lol time - it's bang-head-with-keyboard time. We've all made dumb mistakes, you will live this down ... at least now you have a good example of narrowing down a problem. Next time you get a mysterious problem, use the same basic technique and you will probably solve it yourself.
