Monitor Problems - Installing SuSE 9.1 Personal

Hello everyone, this is my first post on this forum. Alright, I've installed SuSE 9.1 Personal, and everything seems to be fine UNTIL I get to where the login screen should be. After the computer boots up, and everything is loaded, my monitor goes black with a message something like "H/V Frequency Incorrect" (this is an error message built into my monitor, not SuSE).

So, I'm guessing what is happening is once SuSE is ready to display the login screen it sends screen size and/or refresh rates and/or horizontal vertical frequencies which are incompatible with my video card and/or monitor.

I have a GeForce 256 SDR video card, and a ViewSonic P95f+ monitor (19"). During the installation of SuSE, I DID notice that it detected the GeForce 256 correctly, but I don't remember what it said about my monitor.

Okay, another thing is, I AM A LINUX NEWBIE!! So, if anyone has any suggestions for me, I will need VERY VERY CLEAR instructions on how to do what you are recommending. If you are not extremely clear, I can almost guarentee I won't understand.

Thanks for reading my post. I need this linux install working for a Physics class I am taking, so haste would be a virtue in this case =)

Thanks again,
Krater

Well, I don't know what originally caused the problem, but I did a reinstall, and checked the monitor setting this time. They exactly matched the manufacture specs... so, I wasn't expecting a different outcome when I continued with the setup. Well, for whatever reason, it worked. All is well. (posting from LINUX now, in fact =) )
