Monitor keeps blinking on boot

I have a flat panet sony monitor, tried installing Mandriva 2006 on it, install went wine - I also checked the X configuration - test was fine. However when the system booted up, at the last step it keeps blinking - blue screen with mandriva logo, then off, then on again. Cant do CTR+ALT+DEL, or CTR+ALT+F1 etc. So I coodnt even log in.

Any help ?

Incidentally, I have Red Hat running on a laptop with output to the same monitor (using a docking station). It was installed by someone else, and I dont have root access.
