Monitor is flickering

I am using Suse 9.0. My monitor is flickering. Maybe I should use the Yast to configure the refresh rate. But I do not know which setting refers to the monitor refresh rate. Is it the Mhz, or Khz or 1280 x 1024 (I think thats the resolution) My current settings of the active geomentry timmings are : (0), 1280x1024, 68 Khz: 64 Hz, 117 MHz.

At first glance your refresh rates look plenty high enough to avoid flicker. I would check the cable and connections (by reconnecting both ends and wiggling the wire) before I spent much time troubleshooting.

I'm assuming you mean actual flicker that is obvious and worse than say TV, not something very subtle. I'm also assuming that this is a constant, not occasional problem.

This is my current monitor section from xorg.conf

Section "Monitor"
Identifier "Generic Monitor"
Option "DPMS"
HorizSync 28-49
VertRefresh 43-72

I've accidentally bypassed the automatic configuration of the monitor (the VertRefresh should be 43-75), it's capable of 75Hz at a native resolution of 1024x768. This would be a simple fix that I've put off because with normal use it's not a visible difference. (still no flicker)

The refresh rate would be in Hz. You're running at 64Hz and may be capable of higher. I'm at 60 instead of 75.

If you can't up the 64Hz any higher you need to check your xorg.conf file located in /etc/X11 and you'll need root priveleges. Unlike CRT (tube) monitors which can be damaged, if you specify too high a value an LCD will just not display a picture. This would still be a difficult way to find your monitor's capabilities. Google for the monitor's technical specs or post the brand/model # here and I'll try to help.

Monitor flickering

My monitor brand is Supra. I am not sure about the model no, but there is a nos the label at the back of the monitor is: DDC/12B. The flicker is not worse than TV. It is subtle. It is more visible at the corner of the screen. More noticeable at the corners. But the flicker is not there when I boot into MS Windows. So I suspect maybe a Linux config. problem. I have tried reconecting the monitor signal cable. There is no change
