module problems with new d-Link pcmcia card


i just got a d-link pcmcia ethernet card (dfe-670-txd) and it's seen by my laptop at boot but it says it cant find the modules 8390 or pcnet_cs. (modprobe failed) what do i need to enable to get these modules?

If you have the kernel source you can rebuild the kernel with support for it or as a module.

i know but i cant find a listing for my particular card, so i need to know what to enable in the kernel in order to get the modules i need. what should i say m to in xconfig?

ive just noticed the similar threads thing at the bottom and also have noticed that the similar threads aren't similar at all....

It's going to be the WD card listed in 10 or 100 Mb cards section


I think it's WD 80*3

turn on Western Digital/SMC Cards and you will see it.

ok thanks, i got the 8390 module to work but i also seem to need the pcnet_cs module, what do i enable to get that to work?

"PCMCIA/CardBus support" is in the "General setup" section

Once you turn that on you will get "PCMCIA network device support" in the "Network device support" section. go there and turn on "NE2000 compatible PCMCIA support"

ok thanks again it now works, i have internet access via my ethernet card on my laptop...... thanks again
