Modems Compatible with Mandriva Linux 2006 or Ubuntu Linux 5.10

I have Mandriva Linux 2006 free version installed on a computer, but I'm a rural area and can only get dial-up internet, so I am looking for a modem that is compatible with either of these systems. I have the Ubuntu Linux 5.10 install CD here, and can install that if I need to. Thanks!

Look for any serial (RS232) modems, they end to work alright with Linux. Some USB devices will work, so take a look at linmodems.org to see which ones are fully supported.
