Exclamation Modem Problems!

Alright I just install Suse 9.1 and this is my first time messing with Linux and I cannot get my modem configured properly..

First off it says it is installed but when I go to the Hardware Tool and look at my modem it doesnt show a driver? All I have is the cd that came with my modem and its not made for linux so how can I get the drivers off of it?

Also I think part of my problem is I dont know which port my modem is on it says COM3 in Windows so which would that be in Linux? I dunno I may seem dumb but this is my first time messing with linux ive only had it installed for about 2 hours.. so any suggestions would be great! Thanks!

ttyS2 is com3
I think in suse you use yast to set modem anyway find the tool
no drivers are needed for a external dialup modem

What brand/model do you have? I'd find out and check the HCL (link at top of page).

If you open a Konsole window, and type "su" (no quotes) <enter> <your root password> and then "lspci" it will give you information on all your pci devices. This can be helpful to identify what chipset a particular device uses (and hence, which drivers to use with it).

Is it an internal or external modem? (to be more specific, com3 is translated to /dev/ttyS2, /dev/ttyS0 is com1...)

junme: Just because Windows uses com3 does not mean that it must be an external modem. Internal modems have (or at least had) com ports associated with them.

Please do not post the same thread in more than one forum. Picking the most relevant forum and posting it once there makes it easier for other members to help you and keeps the discussion all in one place.
