modem for mandrake 9.0
hello
I am new to Linux, so please bear with me.
I have just installed Mandrake 9.0 on a second disk in my old 350MHz, PII. I used partition magic after a complete disaster of a first installation. M9.0 works fine.
However it does not find my modem, The modem works fine in Win2k which runs on the other disk.
It is a HAM (Harware assistem Modem). I have found the Linux drivers for it from the Intel site, and have copied same on to a floppy. It is Gzip/tarred whatever at the moment.
Here is the real question, how do I install this. I have opened up a console (if that is the right term) gone to the root directory, I have tried to follow the instructions that came in the readme file in the driver but to no avail.
the detailed questions are:
1. how do i unzip the files in the floppy,
2. where do i unzip them to? (or does that not matter)
3. how do i then install the drivers.
I have worked out how to set up the dialler etc. no problems. I cannot work out how to do the above.
any suggestions, printable or otherwise, most appreciated.
Kind regards
