Modem drivers for Agere soft voice pci modem

i like to install the agere soft voice modem which came with my compaq desktop in my linux system. i had removed the modem as i had no use of it, after installing linux now i'm planning to install the modem to recieve fax so installed the modem in the pci slot and booted the system but i guess the drivers are not installed, i need drivers for agere soft voice modem for slackware 12. i tried the agere and lucent drivers but the installation failed. is there any slackware specific drivers available for this modem.

I do not want to discourage you, but I have tried to install four Agere modems with no luck. There are numerous articles in these forums and as far as I know no one has successfully installed the early models. I think I would check with the HCL here and buy a new one that would install with a known driver.

is there anyway to install this modem. i don't have much use of pci modem as i already have a broad band connection, but i have planned to use this modem to setup faxing. only for this purpose i want to install this modem.
